Brigadier General Alfred Tripp is one of two Deputy Commanding General's for the Tennessee State Guard. In this capacity he serves as an advisor for the Commanding General. He acts as a liaison and military advisor to the two western most regiments, the 1st Tennessee Regiment based in Jackson and the 2nd Tennessee Regiment based in Nashville.

BG Tripp is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, fighter pilot and Vietnam veteran. He was commissioned as a Colonel in the Tennessee State Guard and held the assignments of Operations Advisor to the 1st Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer of the 1st Infantry Brigade and concurrent with the reorganization of the Tennessee State Guard in May 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and received his current assignment as Deputy Commanding General (West), Tennessee State Guard.

During his career with the State Guard BG Tripp has received the Tennessee State Guard Distinguished Service Ribbon and the Tennessee State Guard Volunteer Service Ribbon.

BG Tripp's active duty decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 1oakleaf cluster, Air Medal with 19 oakleaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1oakleaf cluster, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation with 1 oakleaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Force Command Pilot Wings.
